The Light Bee X is the bike that made everyone rethink what a trail machine can be. It weighs around 120 lb, which is light enough to pick up and place exactly where you want it, and it runs a mid-drive motor that punches well above its size on tight singletrack and desert two-track. Smaller again, with a low seat height that makes it far less intimidating for newer and younger riders. Instant torque makes it genuinely fun on tight trail rather than merely easy, and being quiet and low-maintenance means it goes places a loud two-stroke should not.

Why quiet matters more than you would think

Noise is what limits where and when you can ride. An electric bike lets you ride closer to where people are staying, later into the evening, and alongside hikers and bikers without clearing the trail ahead of you. It also means a group can actually talk to each other while riding, which sounds trivial until you have tried it.

Who these are best for

Complete beginners, riders coming from mountain bikes, families with a mixed range of ages and confidence, and anyone who wants to ride without a full gear ritual. They are also a good answer if you have ridden gas bikes for years and are curious — most people who try one come back off it grinning.

What about range?

Range depends almost entirely on how you ride and how much climbing you do, so anyone quoting you an exact number has not ridden much. For a half-day of ordinary trail riding around Apple Valley and Gooseberry Mesa these are comfortable. If you are planning a long, aggressive day, book a full day and ask us about it when you collect — we would rather set your expectations properly than have you run flat two miles out.

They reach trails a petrol bike cannot

This is the reason to take one even if you already ride well. There are lines up on Gooseberry Mesa that we know from riding there most weeks which are effectively closed to a full-size petrol bike — too tight between the rocks, too steep and stepped, too much stop-and-place terrain.

A Light Bee X weighs around 120 lb against well over 200 for a comparable petrol machine. It fits where the bigger bike does not, and it can be lifted and placed over a ledge in a way a heavier bike cannot. No clutch to feather and no gearbox to be caught in means you can crawl at walking pace and still have instant drive the moment you need it. Being quiet matters too on narrow, close-in routes.

We keep four of them, so a group rides these together instead of one person getting through and the rest turning back. Where to ride them

Gooseberry Mesa is the standout for technical riding with a view, and the desert two-track around Apple Valley is ideal for a first outing because you can turn around whenever you like. Sand Hollow and Warner Valley are both a short drive if you want sand and slickrock.

Riding gear

Helmets, moto boots and a pants-and-jersey set can be added to the same booking. Electric does not mean slower — wear the gear.
