Lodging and Dirt Bike Rental in the Same Place
Why most Zion riding trips involve three bookings and two hours of driving nobody needed.
Most people plan a riding trip near Zion the same way. Book a motel in St. George or Springdale. Book the bikes somewhere else. Then work out, on the morning of, how to get from one to the other and out to a trailhead before it gets hot. Three separate bookings, and two of them cost you forty minutes of driving each way before the day has started.
There is a simpler version. The cabins and the bikes are at the same address. You walk out of the cabin in the morning and the machine is already there — nothing to collect across town, nothing to open before you can start, and the day begins at the trailhead instead of in the truck.
Where you stay
The cabins are at Gooseberry Lodges — free-standing cabins, each with a porch, a fire pit and its own parking. Six types, from a 96 square foot bunkhouse that only needs to sleep two before an early start, up to a 620 square foot one-bedroom suite with a full kitchen and laundry. In between sit the deluxe bunkhouse, the Queen Lodge, a step-free ADA Queen Lodge and the Deluxe King Lodge. Linens and towels are made up before you arrive, every cabin has heat, air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and check-in is a door code sent the morning you arrive — no front desk to reach before it closes, no arrival window to drive against. All six are described in detail on the cabins near Zion page.
What you ride
Dirt bikes from a Honda CRF125F or CRF250F for someone who has never ridden, up to a Husqvarna TC250 or a KTM 300SX if you have. Electric Sur-Ron Light Bee X if you would rather have no clutch and nothing to stall. We also rent Zion Narrows hiking gear — water hiking boots in sizes 7 to 14, trekking poles and dry bags — and paddle boards. All of it goes on one reservation, and all of it is on site when you arrive.
Where you ride from here
Apple Valley is the nearest town to Gooseberry Mesa, so the closest good riding is genuinely close — jeep roads across the mesa with rim routes that look straight at Zion sandstone. Sand Hollow is the big one: soft dunes, grippy slickrock and miles of open red sand, and it suits a complete beginner and a fast rider on the same day. Warner Valley is the quiet option — wide, forgiving desert with room to make mistakes unobserved, which is where we send genuinely new riders. Zion's south entrance at Springdale is about thirty-five miles away, on the corridor between the park and the north rim of the Grand Canyon, so a park day and a ride day fit into one weekend without either eating the other.
Who this suits
Groups, mostly. One base for six or eight people is dramatically less work than a motel block on one side of the valley and a rental shop on the other, and everyone leaves from the same place at the same time. First-timers, because the morning is unhurried and nobody is watching the clock on a pickup window in another town. And anyone arriving with nothing — no trailer, no bike, no gear, just a flight into St. George or Las Vegas and a hire car.
Practical notes
Each cabin has parking for two vehicles plus room for a trailer. We rent a dirt bike trailer and only keep two, so reserve it at the same time as the bikes if you are heading out to Sand Hollow or Warner Valley. Sand Hollow charges a state park day-use fee per vehicle. Rentals booked with us cancel free up to 24 hours before pickup. Spring and autumn are the best riding and the busiest; summer works if you start at first light and finish by late morning; winter is cold, quiet and better than people expect.
Booking the two together
Pick your dates above and the site shows exactly which bikes and gear are free on those days. The cabins are reserved through Gooseberry Lodges' own system, so it is one trip across two reservations rather than a single checkout — call us on (385) 236-8086 and we will line the nights up so they match, or start with the cabins and come back for the bikes.
